Often times, past clients will refer us to a friend who needs professional photographers (which is very flattering!) Recently, we had the opportunity to do pageant portraits of Miss West Chester University because of a previous connection with one of her talent coaches. Her coach, Michael, was actually the officiant at a wedding for one of our couples, Jackie and Justin. When Nia Andrews was crowned Miss West Chester University, we were excited for the opportunity to reunite with old friends, and to make some new ones!
Needless to say, Nia was excited too, and that radiated through her pageant portraits. Not only is she a beautiful woman, and a smart one majoring in science, but she is an absolute pleasure to work with! She was so easy-going even in the humidity and high wind. (Can anyone say “extra hairspray”?) Fortunately she had a friend with her that helped us with makeup and lighting! It’s easy to see why she attracts such loyal friends. Among a long list of activities and memberships, Nia is Vice President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. on West Chester’s campus. According to the Daily Local News, the judges chose this year’s winner because she was “courageous, strong, smart, unapologetically themselves, and confident.”
We had a great time touring West Chester University, and photographing some of the things that make their campus so special (the Ram, for example!). We took Nia around to do some shots with her crown, sash, and sorority letters. We hope to be a part of many more experiences like this one because now we’ve had the pleasure to photograph three pageant winners — shout out to 2015 Miss Philadelphia Julia Rae and 2014 Miss Southeastern PA Rachel Reese. So, if you find yourself a crowned winner of a talent competition, or just want to feel a little glamorous, look no further than JPG to help make you shine!
