Kristine and Shazell Wed at Waterfall in Claymont, DE

I loved photographing Kristine and Shazell’s wedding at Waterfall in Claymont, Delaware! The whole day was a joyous celebration. Both families were extremely supportive of the girls and their love.

Shaz herself got all choked up when she received a note from Kristine while she was getting ready, and her bridesmaids totally helped her get pumped up and recomposed after that. Visually they were a fantastic pair. Kristine was striking with her dreadlocks wearing her grandfather’s white tux, patten leather shoes and a perfect boutonniere. Shaz, in not one but TWO fabulous dresses, was a sight to behold with her killer curls, and amazing lips and lashes. Neither looked as beautiful as when they were together.

The ceremony was under a lovely awning decorated with lots of green. They even had a monogrammed aisle runner. At the end of the ceremony, Kristine and Shazell jumped the broom, a ritual that has roots in African tribal tradition as well as African American tradition. Some say that the practice symbolizes sweeping away the old and welcoming the new. Others claim that it is a reminder that all people are not equal in our country, yet we will overcome injustice and inequality. It was a powerful and emotional moment to witness.

The elation was continued at their reception. The room was set in tones of purple and pink, with tons of sparkling chandeliers and plenty of champagne. They had a fantastic popcorn station with crazy flavors including pickle popcorn! There was no shortage of dancing- everyone danced at this wedding!!

Ladies you are a beautiful pair and I wish you all the best in your lives together.

Warmly,

Ashley!
