The JPG Photography team had been looking forward to Lindsay and John’s Congress Hall, Cape May wedding ever since their spontaneous engagement shoot. Funny, quirky, and full of personality, Lindsay and John are the kind of couple you could work with every day of the week and never get bored. We knew the wedding was going to be a blast, and we weren’t let down. Between the beach, the boardwalk, a dog in the bridal party, and one spectacular sunset, the moments unfolded as fast as our camera shutters could keep up.
Despite April being the off-season at the shore, there was no question these Wildwood natives would tie the knot in their old stomping grounds. If the colder temperatures don’t bother you, the off-season actually gives a lot of opportunities for out-of-the-ordinary imagery and cheaper wedding prices. Imagine having the entire boardwalk to yourself, with all the rides at Morey’s Piers you loved as a kid in the background. Everyone can appreciate the images we captured on the boards, but most of that is attributed to the character of this couple. Lindsay and John have some style, and at several moments on the big day they reminded us of Audrey Hepburn and James Dean. They posed perfectly with nearly no direction, and made looking flawless seem effortless.
It would have been easy to call it a day on portraits after our awesome session on the boardwalk, but the day had another unexpected surprise in store. After the ceremony, the grey clouds gave way to a post-storm sunset that was on fire. Quickly, we grabbed the couple and made a run to catch it. As we scoped out the streets of Cape May to get a good angle, a patron at a hotel called down to congratulate the couple and ended up inviting us to her balcony to get the shot! Weddings often follow tight timelines and guidelines, so everyone really got a kick out of the spontaneity of this moment, and for sure it will be one to remember for years to come.
Did we mention that Lindsay and John are amazing dancers as well? At the reception, they got down to both doo wop classics and eighties hits, with Lindsay pulling the look together with a fantastic pair of saddle shoes. The night hit its peak when all the guests sang along to Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” at the top of their lungs, with arms around each other. The reception was so much fun that we at times found ourselves singing along from behind the lens.
Lindsay and John, thank you for including Team JPG in your day, and for shining so brightly. You guys rock, and we wish you all the best!
Best, Joe G.
